My Story

Welcome to Passionately Southern!

My name is Alyssa and I am the author of this wonderful blog. Allow me to share some things about myself and my passions.

I am married to my handsome husband Cody! We got married April 2016 and are loving marriage! He is so supportive and loving 🙂

We got engaged in April 2015

He truly makes life special!

We moved to Charleston, South Carolina from small town Iowa in 2015 and are loving the southern lifestyle! The people are so amazing and you definitely can’t beat the weather or being near the beach!

You know some other people who are amazing? Our families! Both of our families helped us move the 1,200 miles to South Carolina!! We are truly blessed with the families we are a part of. They are all so supportive and loving 🙂

We added a member to our little family and his name is Cooper! He is an adorable black pug and keeps us on our toes. We have fallen completely in love with him!

You will also have a chance to meet our wonderful friends throughout the blog as well!!

As the title of the blog suggests, I live a very passionate life. There are many avenues in life I am passionate about. One of those avenues is my career. I love being a teacher! I love being able to make a difference in young people’s lives while bringing to them a passion for life and learning. I was very fortunate to find a job here in South Carolina and have learned a lot and fallen in love with my students, even on the hard days. It is a very different experience than I have had in my young teaching career so far but it will be a great adventure!

My faith is an important part of my life! It has been an everchanging journey in finding my relationship with God and I am excited to continue to grow in my faith! We are so blessed to have an amazing small group who shares in everything good and bad while pushing me to further my faith.

I am also passionate about living a balanced life in regards to food and fitness. I wasn’t always this way, but I am on a great journey of healthier eating and being active. I love to take workout classes, walk, and dance! Veggies have been my kryptonite in the past, but I’ve been more open to trying them and have enjoyed many new ones. Despite eating healthier, I know my love of chocolate and sweets will never go away, which is where my love of baking comes into play!

Weekend Recap + Food & Fitness #19

Every Christmas I do a baking day. These are my regulars during the holidays.

I definitely have strong wanderlust and it definitely shows in my bucket list! I want to see so many places in the world as well as in my own backyard. I love observing different cultures and the history behind it all.

I love fashion and style! Although my closet may not be the most trendy place, I love what it contains and the style I have established. I will share some of my outfits I wear as well as pieces that I desire to add to my closet. Online “window” shopping is something I really like to do, especially when I find great pieces from the blogs I read.

As a teacher I know reading will always be a part of my life, but I truly have a passion for reading. I read blogs on a regular basis, stay up to date on current events, and always have a book on my side table. I love to read right before I go to bed or on the weekends (especially on a rainy day in between movie watching). Even though using a Kindle is very convenient, there is nothing better than picking up and reading a real book!

I hope you join my journey of embracing the passions of life! Thanks for stopping by!
